Out & About

Situated on the banks of the River Wylye in the charming village of Longbridge Deverill, The George Inn is the perfect place to stay to discover everything that Wiltshire and the surrounding counties have to offer.

Our pub is a favourite with tourists from all over the world, thanks to our fantastic, enviable location. We are a short drive to numerous historic sites, and within easy reach of popular destinations such as Salisbury, Bath and Bristol.

We are lucky enough to have Stonehenge almost on our doorstep. Just a 30-minute drive away, Stonehenge is one of the wonders of the world and the best-known prehistoric monument in Europe. Anyone visiting the area for the first time simply won’t want to miss out on a visit to Stonehenge.

Another favourite destination, and one that will keep all of the family entertained, is nearby Longleat Safari Park, the first drive-through safari park outside of Africa. Just a 10-minute drive away, Longleat is home to more than 500 animals, and is situated in the grounds of Longleat House, a stunning English stately home.

Keen walkers will also want to visit the Longleat Estate. As well as being home to the safari park, the estate houses Shearwater Lake, a haven for fishing and sailing. Enjoy a stroll around the beautiful lake or a longer walk on the stunning woodland trails surrounding it.

Stourhead Mansion and Gardens is another beautiful, nearby estate, located at the source of the River Stour near Mere and just an 18-minute drive away. The garden at Stourhead is perhaps the most beautiful and magical of all the great landscape gardens, and is well worth a visit.

Bowood Estate is a bit further afield but don’t let that put you off. Just a 50-minute drive away, through the picturesque Wiltshire countryside, the estate contains a beautifully proportioned Georgian house in the centre of one of the most stunning parks in England, making it a gorgeous location for an afternoon stroll.

We hosted our daughter’s wedding at the George Inn. Laurie and the staff were extremely professional and helpful, the food was perfect in every way and the accommodation and venue we would highly recommend for future weddings or occasions.

Dropped into The George with my son early Sunday evening, had a couple of starters and then steaks, all the food was lovely and staff couldn't have been more helpful. Will be back when passing this way again!! Thanks very much will mention you to others.

We stayed for 2 nights and had a lovely, relaxing stay! Recently refurbished, the bedrooms are clean and tidy. The hotel and bar itself had a lovely Christmassy vibe. Staff were very helpful - would definitely go back! Close to Warminster centre. Recommend 100%

Amazing place! We stayed here for an overnight trip to Light Festival and Bath for our daughter’s 18th. Food was delicious. Rooms lovely and felt like home. Staff were so helpful. This is a beautiful idyllic place to stay and we will definitely be recommending it! Thanks for a great stay!

Best little pub and B&B in Wiltshire. Gorgeous bedroom, beautifully coordinated cushions, window blind, wallpaper making the room feel really warm and welcoming. Clean and comfortable. Absolutely delicious Full English for breakfast, but best of all, an absolute character running the place, with slight "Basil Faulty" tendencies. We loved it, and will certainly return.

What a fantastic place. We absolutely loved it here! We found it after visiting the spa at Longleat and fancied a meal before we went home. They put us on a lovey table in the pub side of it. Service was great and the food even better, super tasty and really well presented. I had the burger which was huge and couldn't finish. My partner had the chicken which was really, really good. Prices were really fair and it was a lovey experience, I wish it was closer to home.

We were warmly welcomed to this delightful restaurant and immediately showed to a table. Wide choice of meals and good range of prices on the menu. Thoroughly recommend Steak Pie, real old fashioned pastry, as light as a feather, well cooked and very tasty. Friendly helpful staff, will definitely go back again.
